Germany and Rwanda signed the Air Transport Agreement to foster Aviation relationship and bilateral cooperation of both countries.

The agreement came as a result of the 2010 aviation negotiations between the two governments to allow commercial air transport services between their territories.

Speaking after the signing, Rwanda’s state minister in charge of transport, Alexis Nzahabwanimana explained that the deal aims to promote competition among airlines in the industry with minimum government interference and regulation

This agreement comes to complement the international regulations that facilitate airlines to move freely in the world,” the minister said.

Peter Fahrenhltz, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Rwanda signed on behalf of the Federal Republic of Germany and Dr.Alexis Nzahabwanimana, the Rwanda’s state Minister in charge of Transport in the Ministry of infrastructure.

Fahrenhltz is optimistic that the agreement between the states will promote an international aviation system based on competition.

“This will bring about minimum government interference and regulation in the Airline’s market place,” he said.

The ambassador said the deal will see Rwandair introduce its flights to Germany and its neighbouring countries, which will give way to competition in the industry.

“This will allow flights registered in Rwanda to fly to Germany and those registered in Germany to fly to Rwanda. As a resultant flight charges would go down to meet the air transport convenience needs of passengers.”

The agreement will also enable airlines to offer the travelling and shipping public competitive prices and services in open markets.

Nzahabwanimana, highlighted both governments goals to have all sectors of the air transport industry, including airline workers, benefit in a liberalized agreement.

Germany has been supporting Rwanda in areas where they have long term cooperation including promotion of sustainable economic development and employment as well as reinforcement of the functionality of the national police structures.
