Burundi Defense Force visit to strengthen cordial relations

The Burundi Defence Force Chief of General Staff, Maj Gen Prime Niyongabo is on a three-day visit to Rwanda to strengthen relations with Rwanda.

The Chief of General Staff with his delegation arrived in the country on 17 June 2013 on a visit that is aimed at strengthening the cordial relations between the two sister nations.

The CGS who inspected a Guard of Honor at RDF Hqs on 18 june 2013, was received by his RDF Counterpart, Lt Gen C Kayonga and later paid a curtsey call on the Minister of Defence, Gen J Kabarebe.

“Maj Gen Niyongabo and his delegation held discussions with RDF CDS Lt Gen C Kayonga, Service Chiefs and Joint Staff on a range of issues spanning security, sharing of intelligence and capacity building of both Defence Institutions as per the Defence cooperation between the two countries” said Brig Gen J Nzabamwita, Defence Spokesperson.

The Burundian Chief of General Staff earlier visited Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, where he told the media that he witnessed that Genocide is horrible and must be fought by everyone. “This is horrible and must be fought by every one, young or old”.

The Burundi Defence Force delegation will visit RDF Installations in a bid to strengthen the cordial military relations, including Zigama CSS, Military Medical Insurance and Gako Military Academy.

The visit follows the one made by Lt Gen C Kayonga to Burundi in April 2013.
