At least 165 female police officers of the Rwanda National Police (RNP) concluded a twelve-week United Nations Pre-deployment peacekeeping training, on September 12, held at RNP headquarters in Kacyiru

The course was undertaken in close collaboration between the Rwanda National Police and the United Nations peacekeeping support operations.

The training was implemented under requirements set out by the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations for individual police contributing countries to physically and mentally prepare their police personnel, before they are deployed to UN peacekeeping missions

While officiating the event Commissioner of Police (CP) Emmanuel Butera, said “I have no doubt that the acquired knowledge will enable the female Police officers to pass the assessment tests,” CP Butera observed.

RNP is among the leading contributors of female officers in UN peacekeeping missions.

Captain Garba Salama, from Niger, one of the facilitators said participants were given about 85 percent of the information required to pass the UN Assessment for the Mission Services.

“We were impressed by the high discipline, seriousness, involvement and professionalism exhibited by the officers during the course,” he observed.

Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Alphonsine Murekatete, one of the participants said, “We are now better, informed, and prepared to pass the upcoming UN peacekeeping assessment tests.”

The female officers gained skills in areas of firearm, driving and language proficiency, among others.

The officers were also awarded certificates of merit.
