The Burundian Authority responsible for Seed Control and Certification (ONCCS) agents are in Rwanda for a three-day study tour in various departments of Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB).

The delegation visited RAB Seeds Laboratory on November 19, 2013 for first hand information on how the laboratory contributes to the development of agriculture sector in the country and to learn from the experience of RAB to ensure the organisation of ONCCS and its services.

“Back home we just started using the skills we adopted from here in our institutions of research; now we wish to experience more of your models,” said Fidel Gahungu, Director General of ONCCS.

“It’s the third time we come to learn from Rwanda. We appreciate the level at which you use technology in developing your country,” Gahungu added.

Dr. Gervais Ngerero, the RAB Seed Production Unit Coordinator told the visitors that though they continuously work towards goals for the future, great progress has been made since its foundation.

Dr. Ngerero also stated that RAB’s seed laboratory is still acquiring many more systems that are being applied in other accredited laboratories such as Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) though the bilateral cooperation has to be exploited.

The delegation also visited the RAB Seeds Laboratory at Rubirizi, Kigali Processing Seed Plant at Masoro and National Agricultural Exports Development Board (NAEB) headquarters.
