A delegation of Interpol Global Complex for Innovation from Singapore visit Rwanda National Police in Kigali on 28 October 2013.
The delegation, led by Sanjay Virmani, Director of Interpol Digital Crime Centre, was received by Stanley NSABIMANA, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in charge of Administration and Personnel.
The two delegations discussed on the 1st Zone 5 East and Southern Africa Working Group on Cybercrime.
Virmani said the world is faced with the fact that ICT opportunities are exploited by cyber criminals.
“Cybercrime is a threat to the entire world. Every region has its own cyber related challenges. There’s a need for collaboration among states to trim down these crimes,” Virmani said.
Cybercrimes include child pornography, fraudulent sales, hacking bank accounts, stealing of personal and private information.
The duo also discussed on the possibility of Rwanda hosting the forthcoming Cyber crime training that will take place in February 2014.
The visit comes after Rwanda was unanimously voted to host the 84th Interpol General Assembly in 2015— during the 82nd Interpol General Assembly held in Cartagena De Indias, Colombia between 21-24 October 2013.
Rwanda Police officers will acquire training in digital forensics, e-learning, among others, to help officers detect and investigate cybercrimes.
The delegation toured Rwanda Police Computer Laboratory and Ethics Center.
