As part of efforts to attract investment and grow the petroleum resources industry in the region, Rwanda is hosting the 7th East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition 2015.
“The East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition helps us to promote investment in the oil and gas sector by demonstrating to the world the potential that lies within the region,” said Prime Minister Anastase Murekezi, during the exhibition.
He noted that sharing information on the status of development of the sector in each Partner State, thereby harnessing Petroleum Potential and Investment opportunities in the East African Region.
“The East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition is a golden opportunity for members of the East African Community as it helps them to reflect on the role that the energy sector plays in the development of our economies,” he said.
The Premier reminded that the conference and exhibition on Petroleum held every two years since 2003 has attracted interest worldwide and has become an important feature in the international oil and gas calendar of events.
“The enormous energy and natural resources that this region is endowed with can be optimally developed through cooperation among Partner States and other partners, ”Murekezi said.
Murekezi said that the EAC is committed to the provision of sufficient, reliable and affordable electricity where in the last year alone, the region has commissioned over five hundred megawatts of new generation capacity
Adding that the programme will see the region’s installed capacity grow from the current 4,000 megawatts to 12,000 megawatts by 2018.
This East African Petroleum Conference and Exhibition that brought delegates from Rwanda Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi was themed “East Africa Region – Proven Destination for Investment in Petroleum Resources for Regional Energy Efficiency and Lasting Socio-Economic Development”.
